3 Key Ways to Distinguish God’s Voice vs. The Enemy’s
February 17, 2019
One struggle many people face today is getting the voice of God confused with the voice of the enemy.
How can you distinguish God’s voice vs. the enemy’s voice?
How can you really know which voice you are hearing?
Do you ever have little thoughts jolt in your mind, and you wonder if it’s from God, your own brain, or something else?
Well, when those little thoughts creep into your mind, it can be easy to assume “God is speaking to you.”
When in all actuality, it’s just the enemy attacking your mind. Or it’s just your own self deprecating thoughts spiraling out of control.
(yes sometimes we can get into our own heads! yikes.)
3 Key Ways to Distinguish God’s Voice vs. The Enemy’s
1. Asking yourself, “Does this align with scripture?”
If the answer is no, then it is definitely not the voice of God you are hearing.
He will never tell you something or ask you to do something that goes against his divine word.
Deuteronomy 4:2
“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”
2. Remember that God is not the author of confusion. He does not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and of a sound mind.
He is not going to fill your mind with fear! Only GOOD comes from him and through him, not evil or confusion or darkness.
If the voice your hearing scares you (in a bad or unsetttling way) then it is probably not the voice of the Lord.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
3. Pray Ask him for a spirit of discernment so you can know his voice.
His word says to ask and you shall receive. Pray and ask him for guidance on distinguishing God’s voice vs. the enemy’s
Matthew 7:7-8Matthew 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one who asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
Jesus says in the book of John, My sheep know and hear my voice.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:John 10: 27-28
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Know that Jesus wants you to hear his voice. His word says, that the father gives good gifts to his children. What a beautiful gift we have in being able to hear from the Lord!
Matthew 7:10-12Matthew 7:10-12
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
I am reminded of King Solomon when he could have had anything in the world, and yet he asked for wisdom. (He wrote most of the book of Proverbs)
God gave him the wisdom he asked for!
Ask God to help you hear his voice today.
I know it can be hard to find quiet time for God, but he is there and he is listening.
